Description
The new National Autism Unit (NAU) at Bethlem Royal Hospital provides: one fifteen bed ward with dining area and kitchen, lounge and games room; a central therpaies area connected seamlessly to the ward accommodation, providing, interview rooms, ADL Kitchen (Activity Daily Living), sensory room, gymnasium, art rooms as well as clinicial areas; and administration and staff support areas together with the main entrance.
Innovations & Added Value
Through detailed consultation with the Trust, the design looks to create a calm environment, with a variety of spaces within a simple and easily understood layout, where spaces graduate from public to private allowing the service users a choice of environment, stimulus, interation, privacy or socialisation where they and the staff can work together.
