Cygnet Hospital Maidstone, Completed
Cygnet Hospital Maidstone, Completed Summer 2018
Client Cygnet Healthcare
Description This independent hospital will provide accommodation for sixty seven patients in four L-shaped wards. Each ward will have direct access to outside space, either into a landscaped ward garden or terrace. Great care has been applied to the design of the green spaces in and around this high quality building.
Innovations & Added Value The proposed site is the Kent Medical Campus in Maidstone. The rolling nature of the topography allowed a cut and fill solution which helped reduce the building profile and respect the height of the adjacent ancient woodland. Planted woodland buffer zones around the building along with the use of semi-intensive planted roofs and locally sourced Kentish ragstone in both loose form within gabion cages and cut faing blocks further help the proposal to sit comfortably within it's semi-rural context.
